Hurricane & Disaster Preparation
We are Ready to take Action!
Safety, care and well-being for your dog is Our Top Priority at Dogs at Dolphins View, and that includes being prepared in the event of a hurricane.
Hurricane season is June-October along all coastal areas. Galveston plans in advance, and so do we! We recently attended Galveston Island’s hurricane preparedness meeting on June 2, 2012. Read more on our Community News page.
Be confident that we will evacuate if that is what officials are advising! If you are not in the area, we will take your dog to safety with us, in one of our vehicles prepared with extra gas, so we can get safely out of the area. Depending on the conditions, we will go to Dallas, or continue on to our farm in Kansas.
If a hurricane causes severe damage such as Ike did in 2008, the Island can be closed for 2-3 weeks, before we can return. If this happens, you will need to come pick up your dog wherever we are.
Our goal is to BE SAFE. We won’t go further than we feel we need to, but we drive to Kansas often, and know we can get there in about 10 hours under usual circumstances, so we have no problem going that far if we need to do so.
In the event of evacuation, we will contact you via phone and email. Please ensure that viable contact information is provided on the PLAYcation Application.
